AECOM Railway Systems Lead in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Job Summary

1. Purpose of the Job

To support the Engineering Manager in the management of the Railway Systems elements of the Spine and NICC designs undertaken by BEC and subsequent contractor design and delivery. To provide technical oversight of activities relating to Railway Systems engineering related disciplines. The Railway Systems Lead reports to the BEC Engineering Manager.

2. Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the management of Railway Systems discipline Design Managers for Train Control, Rail Electrification and Power, OHLE and associated Telecoms.

  • Providing visible leadership and demonstrable commitment to system engineering principles demonstrating by the processes put in place;

  • Interface and assist other Railway Systems discipline managers in compilation of Design submissions, Requirements compliance matrices, programme updates, updates to Programme integrated design registers and in the assurance process execution.

  • Keeping the Engineering Manager informed of technical issues arising from Railway Systems works.

  • Liaising with the EPM for engineering relating works.

  • Interfacing with other Neom sectors (particularly Mobility and Freight & Logistics) whose works may impact on the Neom Project works and to support agreement on technical interfaces.

  • Providing input into engineering solutions / field sketches / specifications

  • Attend the Project Engineering Director’s weekly review meeting and report progress, update, and status of E&P design and programme.

  • Organise the RS Project Managers progress meetings as required.

  • Accountable for ensuring the establishment, maintenance and improvement of effective quality management arrangements in his/her areas of responsibility;

  • establishing effective communication of quality issues and of the importance of meeting quality requirements; and

  • ensuring that adequate support is provided in respect of audit activities and that prompt and effective corrective action follows when non-conformities are identified, thus, providing visible leadership and demonstrable commitment to quality.

  • Initiating and supporting value engineering activities.

3. Main challenges of the job

  • Supporting the successful delivery of the project with multiple modes of rail operation requiring full systems integration

  • which in a live operational construction environment with significant safety hazards including moving trains and 25kV Overhead Line Electrification.

  • Supporting the achievement of systems integration, design assurance and acceptance with agreement from stakeholders in a timely way.

  • Ensuring stageworks considerations are addressed in the contractor’s design.

  • Resolving technical issues during the construction phase in a timely way to support the construction programme.

4. Dimensions & Interfaces (both internal and external)

  • Key working relationships

  • Reports to Engineering Manager

  • Works closely with key stakeholders, particularly Neom Mobility, Freight & Logistics and Energy sectors.

  • Works closely with Engineering Manager, construction management and site management staff, main contractor and framework design contractors.

  • Works closely with EPM staff In-Kingdom

Minimum Requirements

  • 10 years’ experience of Railway Systems engineering and construction on major infrastructure projects for multiple rail modes

  • Familiarity with interoperability requirements

  • Experience of temporary works design and implementation.

  • Project experience in a live rail environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree qualified engineer in electrical engineering or equivalent
