AECOM Mechanical/Fire Protection Engineer - Qatar in Doha, Qatar

Qatar - Al Udeid, Doha

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical/Fire Protection Engineer for an anticipated position supporting a construction effort in the country of Qatar. The mechanical engineer will research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Provide mechanical design service for fire protection and associated systems. The work location for this position is on the Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB) in Qatar.

  • Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

  • Design products or systems in support of facilities' infrastructure, research, or maintenance requirements.

  • Coordinate, troubleshoot, and approve installation activities as inspection services to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications.

  • Provide fire protection design analysis services including determination of sprinkler and alarm systems, and equipment selection.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Due to nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and be capable and willing to submit and pass random fitness for duty screening particularly for drugs and alcohol.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidate must have degreed fire protection, mechanical, electrical, or other directly related engineer.

  • Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years fire protection design experience, and be capable of providing fire protection design analysis services including determination of sprinkler and alarm systems, and equipment selection

  • Must be able to research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

  • Establish mechanical engineering design criteria and provide guidance and evaluation for facility projects; determine HVAC loads, complete equipment selection, design interior/exterior plumbing and provide duct sizing and routing.

  • Must have knowledge of National Building and Fire Codes

  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD 2012 or later, and use AutoCAD to create presentable and accurate facility and infrastructure plans for concept and statement of work requirements for project execution.

  • Must be responsible for reviewing host nation provided design submittals.

  • Must be able to update integrated master schedule (IMS) tasks and report potential or existing problem areas and recommend corrective actions to eliminate or reduce schedule impact.

  • Conduct technical investigation involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Must be able support construction inspections, and submittal reviews beyond the expertise of construction inspectors

  • May require travel to areas in the local area outside of the military installation to verify design requirements and quality of work being performed on jobs/projects.

  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have current passport with more than 12 months validity

  • Must pass medical/dental screening, receive required immunizations, and complete Government deployment preparation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registration as a Fire Protection Engineer is preferred.

  • Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

  • Design products or systems in support of facilities' infrastructure, research, or maintenance requirements.

  • Coordinate, troubleshoot, and approve installation activities as inspection services to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Conduct design review and commissioning services for fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems including review of designs and submittals, verification of as-built and redline drawings, construction surveys and inspections, development and partial witnessing of pre-functional checklists, and development and executing functional performance tests

  • Apply fundamental fire and life safety engineering principles to create performance based solutions to design challenges that are not addressed by the straightforward application of existing fire protection codes and standards

  • Conduct building code and egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations

  • Perform surveys and/or analyses to ensure compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards and Underwriters Laboratories standards, perform calculations as assigned such as size required means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment;

  • Experience preferred in the following software: AutoCAD 2016, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft (MS) Office 365, Primavera and MS Project

  • Experience in reading, interpreting, and deciphering all construction documents (schedules, specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and related documents).

  • Fluent in the Arabic language is preferred
