Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a

Fire Protection Engineer for an anticipated position supporting a construction effort in the country of Qatar. The Fire Protection Engineer will capable of providing fire protection design services including determination of sprinkler and alarm systems, and equipment selection. The candidate will be responsible for selected construction inspections, quality control, submittal reviews for the fire protection systems. The work location for this position is on the Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB) in Qatar.

  • Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

  • Design products or systems in support of facilities' infrastructure, research, or maintenance requirements.

  • Coordinate, troubleshoot, and approve installation activities as inspection services to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Conduct design review and commissioning services for fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems including review of designs and submittals, verification of as-built and redline drawings, construction surveys and inspections, development and partial witnessing of pre-functional checklists, and development and executing functional performance tests.

  • Apply fundamental fire and life safety engineering principles to create performance based solutions to design challenges that are not addressed by the straightforward application of existing fire protection codes and standards

  • Conduct building code and egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.

  • Perform surveys and/or analyses to ensure compliance with National Fire Protection.

  • Association (NFPA) codes and standards and Underwriters Laboratories standards, perform calculations as assigned such as size required means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment.

  • Provide engineering support to the building management office for fire alarm and fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance.

  • Propose additions, changes, and updates to existing fire protection and life safety codes, standards, and regulations, such as CSA, NFPA, and ULC, perform impact analysis on the consequences of new code adoption and code cycle changes to construction project requirements and building operations.

  • Investigate fire, smoke and fire alarm activation related incidents to assist in determining cause and make recommendations for improvements to policies and practices.

  • Meet client and customer needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks in the time allotted, and effectively communicating with project team members, clients, customers, and others.

  • Compose technical letters and reports to address specific technical concepts as may be needed by assigned tasks.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and be capable and willing to submit and pass random fitness for duty screening particularly for drugs and alcohol.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in fire protection, mechanical, electrical or other directly related engineer degree and five plus (5) years of design experience with capability of providing fire protection design services, including determination of sprinkler and alarm systems, and equipment selection.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2012 or later.

  • Knowledge of National Building and Fire Codes

  • An understanding of fire protection engineering principles

  • Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades and industry authorities.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.

  • Must have an active or interim Secret Clearance and be able to maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Due to nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen.
