AECOM Structures Practice Lead Middle East in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Job Summary

This position would suit an acknowledged industry expert and leader in this field. The position includes being AECOM mentor, lead and coach to the structure team of engineers across all business units for successful delivery of projects, technical and professional practice (Structures) matters.

Job Duties:

Project Duties

  • Represent AECOM within the Middle East as the lead structural engineering expert and already be acknowledged as such.

  • Contribute to successful project completion and management by providing expert technical services in accordance with the project time and quality.

  • Lead the coordination process with other senior team leaders for continuity of the project.

  • Participate in preparation of major bids and proposals on the commercial and technical side.

  • Review and check specifications, reports and drawings to ensure quality of design and output.

  • Assess if targets are achieved and determine where improvements could be made to increase efficiency.

  • Ensure commercial viability of the structures team.

  • Responsible for quality and timely output of all design activities as assigned to the structural teams across all buildings business units.

  • Responsible for technical analysis and resolution of structural engineering problems.

  • Supervise and direct a team of senior engineers, designers and support personnel.

  • Coordination with Authorities for approvals of schemes

  • Other such duties commensurate with this role.

Maintain quality of work by:

  • Advising on best international practice.

  • Ensuring adherence to corporate standards.

  • Ensuring that all activities are performed in a safe manner and comply with AECOM’s OH&S requirements.

  • Ensuring the relevant QA/QC procedures are followed.

  • Ensuring professional mentoring leadership of the discipline technical practice.

  • Ensuring discipline skills are up to date and industry relevant.

  • Maintain, develop and retain the highest appropriate standard of technical skill.

  • Commit to continual professional development and learning on relevant technological, business and human relationship matters.

  • Represent AECOM as Structural lead at conferences and otherwise publish papers on relevant subjects.

Client Relationships

  • Maintain and develop Client relationships.

  • Record precise information about work scope from the client and seek formal agreement, including change management.

  • Contribute to client satisfaction through being responsive in a timely and effective manner for any queries from the client.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Thought leadership including being a pivotal member of the next generation digital transformation team in our industry and embracing this change within the structural engineering community.

  • Experience using software such as; Etabs, STAAD.pro, SAP 2000, VisualAnalysis etc

  • A track record of having worked on a variety of building tructures designs covering different sectors, for example, Education, Healthcare and Commercial projects.

  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.

  • A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills

  • Relevant experience in structural design, including both hand calculations and the latest industry standard design software

Minimum Requirements

  • Over 15 years of relevant industry experience with tier 1 engineering consulting firms.

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience with a tier 1 engineering consultancy is required in a leadership capacity.

  • Experience in the Middle East geography will be advantageous.

  • Proven experience in successfully managing clients throughout a project lifecycle

  • Successful history of managing and running a high performing technical structures team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering is required.

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) or equivalent is required.

  • Master degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering or equivalent preferred
