AECOM Senior Associate - Urban Design in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Job Summary

  • Takes on the role of Key Client Manager and ensures strong relationships with existing clients to ensure repeat work. Independently leads and win projects and retains clients.

  • Introduces and brings new clients and projects to the business though personal network. Take lead on building relationships with new clients locally and regionally to increase our portfolio of projects and clients.

  • Contribute to building a healthy pipeline of projects and revenue and help in monitoring success rates and effective management of bids and proposals.

  • Take lead on multiple complex multi-disciplinary projects and lead key client key accounts.

  • Contribute to the recruitment process to fill in gaps in skills and resources

  • Maintain diversity in the workforce and promote equal growth opportunities in the urban planning team in terms of leading projects and managing teams.

  • Lead on thought leaderships presentation and design dialogues for benefit of wider team.

  • Reinforce and strengthen project teams’ ideas for implementation and further consideration.

  • Help staff develop additional skillsets and experience on projects and in the studio.

  • Present clearly design ideas internally and externally with clear narrative.

  • Bridge between delivering design ideas and delivering to budget. Understand client objectives and steer design thinking accordingly.

  • Drive direct reports to embrace digital transformation and innovation.

  • Lead and facilitate key client workshops and board of directors/CEO’s presentations.

  • Manage urban design bids and proposals and establish winning themes and defining differentiators. Understand pricing and qualification aspects and establish price winning strategies.

  • Maintain performance of resources and projects KPI’s and establish means and ways to enhance performance.

  • Ensure appropriate utilization of staff skillset and time across projects and bids.

  • Contribute to the short term and long-term resource planning by managing projects resource requirement and coordinate/resolve with other peers’ conflicts.

  • Prioritize, focus and accountability - Aligns resources to critical business needs and delegates where appropriate, escalates issues as necessary to senior leadership to impact results.

  • Be an ambassador of safety procedure in the office and outside office and provide staff with support where needed at personal level.

  • Manage people career path and growth and establish plans for short- and long-term development goals.

  • Adopt instantly the AECOMs project delivery and financial systems (APIC) governance policy and procedures and ensures junior team members also learn and comply.

  • Develop quality management systems for multiple project, take leadership in QA/QC process, and drive quality of all deliverables across multiple projects.

  • Understands and applies a multi-disciplinary approach to projects - scoping to delivery. Demonstrates an understanding of multiple disciplines and how these come together in project delivery.

  • Analyses complex issues and manages components of solving challenges within a function or business unit.

  • Fact-based decisions - Seeks out factual information and assesses risk to make the best possible decision. Ensures decisions are implemented, evaluated and takes accountability for results.

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong designer with excellent technical capabilities with a proven track record of taking projects from start to finish.

  • Plan and conduct design and creative review sessions for ongoing projects and competitions.

  • Challenges traditional norms and guidelines but also have a thorough understanding of urban design principles and proven experience of delivering complex large-scale projects across multiple disciplines.

  • Lead studio concept design ethos discussions and design drivers. Steer and define project’s innovative visions in line with the studio ethos, the site potentials and the project brief.

  • Maintain quality across the various urban design and concept architecture project deliverables from design concepts to graphics. Protect brand through graphics style and deliverables quality.

  • Facilitate the implementation of innovative urban design attributes and solutions and provide tools and resources to the team to do so.

  • Facilitate the use of new innovative digital tools in urban design projects and lead on identifying internal research and development topics.

  • A minimum of 15 years overall experience is essential. 5 years of which must have been on major project deliveries related to land development.

  • Experience on projects in the UAE and/or GCC is desirable. Knowledge and experience with local planning approvals processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Design or architectural related subject.

  • Recognised professional qualification or membership or Master’s Degree in urban design.
