Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking Commercial & Delivery Director. The Commercial & Delivery Director will be responsible in leading pre-contract commercial and pricing strategies on major bids, and post contract project recovery and turn around for projects in distress as directed by regional management.

This role will provide consistency across the MEA region and operating end markets to ensure we ‘do it right’ the first time on a broad range of projects. The selected candidate will be working with a portfolio of internal and external stakeholders across the MEA region including the head of Operational Risk Management (ORM).

This position will involve travel where and when needed across the ME region for variable lengths of time depending on the demands of the project.

Job Duties:

In particular, the role will be responsible for:

  • Lead the review of Contract Terms and Conditions for major bids and proposals, with appropriate input from legal, insurance and finance teams.

  • Prepare contract analysis for major bids and proposals including recommending mitigation for all medium and high-risk items.

  • Support End Markets on select contractual negotiations to drive contracts to the point of “signature” with appropriate T&Cs in a timely manner.

  • Support End Markets by providing risk and commercial management expertise during the bid and project lifecycle.

  • Support End Markets in developing and executing commercial / pricing strategies on major bids and proposals.

  • Support End Markets in reviewing and providing commercial advice on the submission of major bids and proposals to the Regional Risk Committee.

  • Support bid teams in reviewing pricing documents, qualifications and project execution methodology of major bids and proposals.

  • Verify level of project management, delivery, and commercial resources within major bids.

  • Co-ordinate with End Markets and participate in “Healthy Start” reviews and Project Performance in order to identify and help rectify problem projects by engaging directly with project teams and clients.

  • Work closely with End Markets Operation Directors to ensure risks, performance and delivery issues are identified, assessed and managed.

  • Support End Markets in managing commercial risk and opportunity on select projects to ensure changes in scope are managed rigorously with a focus on commercial implications.

  • Prepare claims by AECOM, manage disputes and negotiate appropriate commercial claim settlements.

  • Evaluate claims from clients, manage disputes and negotiate appropriate commercial claim settlements.

  • Carry out detailed reviews and analyses of poorly performing projects, report on and devise mitigation strategies, including actively driving resolution.

  • Raise commercial awareness across delivery teams.

  • Actively participate in and promote the EMEA commercial network

Specific Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of the Middle East construction and engineering consulting industries.

  • Operationally and commercially astute with hands on experience in adding value to the growth of a multi-national built environment company.

  • Hands on experience of delivering a mega program

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate and display strong business & financial acumen; this will include understanding financial management and commercial drivers both within AECOM and within client organizations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in a multi-national consulting engineering business.

  • Proven experience in delivering large multi-disciplinary projects, preferably in the Middle East

  • Proven experience in commercial and contractual matters on major projects

  • Proven experience in developing claim strategies and settling large commercial/ contractual disputes

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc degree in Engineering and/or Commercial related degree/ experience and/or membership of e.g. RICS or CICES
